Haven’t bought an Arizona in years but it seems at some point they removed their 99¢ promise from the cans. Now stores are free to charge whatever they want.

$1.69? USD??
Get the fuck outta here.

Yes, I am also pissed at Santitas tortilla chips which always said “ONLY $2” on the bags for as long as I can remember.
The other day, text has disappeared and store wanted $2.29
Get ethanol out of my fuel and make my Santitas $2 again!

Pure leaf is tastier anyway. Too bad they’ll probably want $4 for half the total amount though.

They used to print “99¢” in big yellow lettering on the cans so that stores would be forced to charge that price. Arizona was a mainstay of my high school days.

Your store just sucks. Bought this today.

Man, I just bought one the other day and it was still 99 cents. I did notice the 99 cent logo on the can was gone though, which will make higher prices more common now.

REALLY?
We have a sugar tax here in the U.K., anything over a certain level of sugar has a sugar tax put on it.
Packs of Coca Cola can’t be sold in packs of 30 like Diet Coke and Coke Zero.
Diet Coke and Coke Zero work out at £1.01 per litre, while regular Coke is £1.26 per litre.
Not to mention we need to be over 16 to buy a high caffeine drink. So me at 38, has to stand at a self service till for approval from an 18 year old cashier to buy a can of Monster.

I’ve moved onto Peace Teas.

The 2 for $4 at my local store for Monster doesn’t apply to Java Monster, and the deal on Mtn Dew Kickstart keeps changing back and forth between 3 for $3 and 2 for $3. The struggle is real.

Didn’t you people invent the full English breakfast?

They’re still 99 cents, often on sale for even less, at CVS.

Everytime I see Arizona Ice Tea I think of those old Pace commercials.
New York City!

The city I work in (Philadelphia) instituted a soda tax last year. It’s 1.5 cents per OUNCE. And what pisses me off more than anything is the fact that they tax diet sodas too, which is just outright bullshit.

Very few dollar stores also held all their prices to $1. My faith in humanity was destroyed years ago. This is just another brick in the mausoleum.

Still 99 cents out where I am! :P

Inflation: it’s a thing!

Stores honoring the 99 cents were wussies! They should have just charged whatever they want. Murica!

Sure, but the average price of a new car is over $30,000 and a movie ticket is over $10 bucks.
Things go up.

Yes, but obesity costs lives and the health service a lot of time and money every year.
I’m all for it but having to wait at a self service for approval to buy a can of Monster, Relentless or Redbull is annoying (though not usually as annoying as using a self service till in the first place).
Health services are having to buy more heavy duty ambulances to cope with the larger size and weight patients.

That shit wouldn’t fly here. The idea is to encourage a less sugar diet and stop kids under 16 from drinking high caffeine drinks.

A local 7-11 near LAX never followed that $0.99 guideline and was charging $1.69 a decade ago. Bums.

I haven’t bought a tea in a can* that tastes decent.
Not in a can, though.

MA has laws about that stuff. If a store here tried to charge something higher than what it was marked I’d get it for free.

Dollar General is the only chain in my area. They just have to limit their stock to what they can charge $1 for.

Which isn’t much. You used to be able to buy real glassware at those places.

I’m moderate as far as that stuff is concerned. We need to socialize certain aspects of our society (education, healthcare, etc). I’m all for raising taxes to make that happen but I’d never want to fall under the same amount of regulation that many European countries have.

Like the sugar tax, if you want to drink unhealthily, fine, but pay more towards the outcome of it.
People need to take responsibility for their actions and acknowledge the most likely outcome. Sometimes you need to nudge them in the right direction and if that doesn’t work, may need to step in.

A dollar ain’t what it used to be. Still, I get useful items there, like reading glasses. And all cold drinks are still $1 there.

Thanks.
To be truthful I had edited it after I posted as my initial post, while stressing that I didn’t want to come across as too aggressive and judgemental, could of been taken differently to how it was meant.

Drives me crazy. We have plenty of other major issues to pick from- gun control, homelessness, conservation, workplace safety, etc. But our #1 leading cause of death and illness that effects a huge percentage of the population is completely taboo and only rarely brought up.
I’m not a huge fan of the “make the bad stuff more expensive” method, although it’s a lot better than nothing. I’d rather see work done to lower prices on the better-for-you foods, and makes sure kids are exercising daily in a way that teaches them to love it. My old hospital I interned at couldn’t fit two of the new larger stretchers side by side in the hallways
